Liz Asks: Are you coming to camp?

Are you coming to TC Summer Camp? (Have you been to TC Camp?)

TC Camp, the non-profit we launched last year is expanding! The board at TC Camp is taking it to the East Coast next month: It’s TC Summer Camp!

TC Summer Camp is an unconference – the only one focused on content creators and the people who support them. It’s been going for four years in Silicon Valley, and now they’re coming East. If you’ve never been, it’s an amazingly intense and stimulating event. Get together with your peers and wrap your arms around the topics you care most about. You’re guaranteed to be interested in the unconference sessions because you’ll be deciding the topics on the day of the event!

Read more over at the TC Camp website — read about how an unconference event works or what past attendees have to say (and why then don’t miss it!)

We’ll be there, so if you’re within driving distance of Fairfax, VA, on Saturday, the 30th of July, come say hi!

Welcome to the TC Dojo

We took what we learned from the popular Arbortext Monster Garage virtual meeting series and the overwhelming requests we received from the first annual TC Camp held in Santa Clara in January 2013 and blended them together. The result — a new twist on the typical web session.

What is TC Dojo

TC Dojo is a virtual meeting place for the Technical Communications professional. Whether you are just starting out in the field or you are a well-seasoned expert, everyone can gain valuable learning at the TC Dojo.

Why call it a dojo?

dojo (dōjō?) is a Japanese term which literally means “place of the way“. Typically, it is the place for learning and practicing a martial art form. We decided to borrow this theme and apply it to the practice and learning for the art of Technical Communication.

What will we cover?

Ever wish they were talking about what you cared about? Now is your chance at the TC Dojo. Topics range from developing skill sets to specific tool use to solving advanced complex challenges.

How does it work?

There are three ways to learn at the Dojo: Open SessionsMasterminds, and Private Sessions.

  • TC Dojo Open Sessions

Free General Audience Sessions for students at every level. In this Dojo, we cover a wide range of topics appropriate for a wide range of practitioners from the beginner to the advanced. Look for the code key:

  • B – Beginner
  • I – Intermediate
  • A – Advanced

Open Session Topics will be selected by the attendees and can cover anything of concen to Technical Communcations professionals such as architectural design, analysis or tools.

The sessions run for only 30 minutes and meet once a month.

We may increase the frequency depending on audience interest and demand. However, we will always keep these sessions short and to the point.

  • TC Dojo Master Series

How much time, effort and money is it costing you to keep struggling to learn how to implement, grow, and transform your content by yourself?

These member only sessions meet once a month. The focus in the master session is to delve deeper into solving complex issues in real time amongst a small group of peers.

Sessions run 45 minutes once a month. The forum is open discussion with a moderator and a scribe. There is a fee to join the Master Series.

TC Dojo Masters can advise on everything from constructing metrics and arguing for resources to C-level executives to data reuse strategies to down-and-dirty coding tips to meet specific output feature requirements. The subject of a private session is up to you.
